It is very easy to set a ring tone on your mobile. As you would have noticed, there are some monophonic ring tones that are already stored in your mobile phone by the operator as an extra feature to enhance the user experience. But they are not necessarily of your choice. You might want to listen to a ring tone of your choice.

A striking ring tone for your mobile adds zing to it. You can choose to download them from the internet. There are some websites that would charge a user to download ring tones, whereas some would offer the service for free, at least for the first few ring tone downloads so that you stick to the website.

For a start, downloading free ringtones can be a bit confusing and a difficult task. It is advisable to grasp the basics well before you visit a website and opt to download one of your favorite songs as a ring tone in your mobile.

The four basic things to keep in mind are:

  1. From where to download a ring tone?
  2. Which website is offering free ring tone downloads?
  3. Whether a ring tone is compatible with your phone?
  4. How to save the ring tone in the device?


Once you have followed these basics, getting ring tones for your cellphone will be an easy thing for you and you won't need to waste time in asking someone else to help you.

Before you start downloading ringback tones from the internet, check out what type of ring tone you can do with. There are three types of ring tones: monophonic ring tones, polyphonic ring tones, and mp3 ring tones.

The most important point, as mentioned above, is to cross-check which of the three types will be suitable for your cellphone. This depends on your phone model. The earlier, basic mobile models had the ability to play only monophonic tones. Then arrived the polyphonic ring tones and now you can easily set any of your favorite songs or tunes as a ring tone on your mobile, which has been made possible owing to the advent of GPRS system.

New mobiles have an innovative memory system that allows them to store as many songs as a user wants in his or her cellphone that can later be set as ring tones. These ring tones are often pricier to download. The best option would be to connect your cellphone to a computer via USB cable or through Bluetooth. This enables you to directly download mp3 songs on your cellphone. Now you know how easy it is to get a wonderful ring tone for your mobile.
